Biofuel systems for transportation in Portugal: A
"well-to-wheels" integrated multi-objective assessment Reference:
PTDC/TRA/72996/2006 Project Objectives The
project aims to conduct innovative multi and interdisciplinary research from
a whole systems perspective. The methodology and approaches to be developed will
provide answers on technical, economic, environmental and energetic issues
related to the development and implementation of large-scale biofuel systems
for transportation in Portugal. In particular our specific objectives are: · To implement a systemic description of alternative
biofuel production schemes (well-to-tank), assessing energy efficiency,
environmental performance and cost-effectiveness. · To perform a tank-to-wheels experimental analysis of
selected biofuels. · To develop a multi-objective optimization model
combining economic, technological, environmental and energetical aspects and,
finally, to identify possibilities and optimal strategies towards large scale
sustainable production, use and trading of biofuels for the transport sector
in Portugal and Europe. Research Team Principal
